For too many service members, the deadliest battle starts after they come home: soldiers are 9x more likely to die by suicide than in combat, and when a firearm is involved, 75% use it and 36% act in under five minutes. Yet stigma and the military mindset keep many from speaking up or seeking help, fueling a private “War Within.” To create intervention at the moment of risk, we worked with Stop Soldier Suicide and Simtek to build VET-SAFE, a smart firearm sensor that turns access into a personal distress signal, instantly alerting a trusted support network. Launched socially in April 2025 with free devices for veteran testers and a dedicated purchase hub, the program blends simple tech and messaging to make asking for help feel immediate and possible.
